🦅 QUETZALCOATLUS vs HATZEGOPTERYX 🦅

Two of the most enormous flying reptiles ever discovered.

And their biggest difference wasn't necessarily their wingspan.

🦅 Quetzalcoatlus northropi
📏 ~10–11 m wingspan
🌎 Late Cretaceous — North America
🦴 Extremely tall and slender, with a remarkably long neck and an exceptionally long, narrow pointed beak.

🦅 Hatzegopteryx thambema
📏 ~10–12 m wingspan
🌍 Late Cretaceous — Romania
🦴 A giant azhdarchid known for its unusually robust, deep skull and powerful-looking jaws.

Their wingspans may have been broadly comparable.

But look closely at the heads.

Quetzalcoatlus had the classic long, slender azhdarchid profile.

Hatzegopteryx had a much more robust skull—with a deeper, broader construction that gives it a very different silhouette.

And neither was a “giant bird.”

They were pterosaurs: flying reptiles with enormous fourth wing fingers supporting their wing membranes.

Imagine one of these creatures walking past you at nearly human height—or towering above you on all fours.

🦅 Same giant pterosaur group.
🦴 Very different head designs.
